Flood Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash, and Whitley Counties.

 

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers: Tippecanoe River near Ora affecting Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Pulaski, and Starke Counties. Wabash River near Bluffton affecting Wells County. Eel River at North Manchester affecting Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash, and Whitley Counties. Maumee River at Fort Wayne affecting Allen and Paulding Counties. Saint Joseph River Ohio NEAR Newville affecting Allen, De Kalb and Defiance Counties. Rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected overnight and through the weekend. Additionally, storms can produce rain rates near 1 inch per hour. This will result in rising water on rivers.

*From Saturday afternoon to late Tuesday night.

*At 8 PM Friday the stage was 4.4 feet and steady.

*Moderate flooding is forecast.

*Flood stage is 11.0 feet.

*Forecast: The river will rise above flood stage Saturday afternoon and crest near 14.5 feet around 2 PM Sunday, March 29 and fall below flood stage around 2 AM Tuesday, March 31.

*At 15.5 feet: Significant flood problems in southwest Whitley and northeast Wabash Counties along the Eel River.

*This crest compares to a previous crest of 14.5 feet which occurred on Jul 1 2017.

 

Instructions: Never drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near floodwaters. FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT EDT /11 PM CDT/ TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio, including the following areas, in northern Indiana, Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, Starke, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley. In northwest Ohio, Allen, Defiance, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, and Van Wert.

*From midnight EDT /11 PM CDT/ tonight through Saturday morning

*Showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain are expected to develop along a stalled frontal boundary tonight into Saturday morning. These storms may be capable of producing one to one and three-quarters inches of rainfall with localized higher amounts. This rainfall, occurring over moist soils may result in flooding of poor drainage areas, and rapid runoff may cause rapid rises on area streams, creeks, and rivers.

 

Instructions: A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Special Weather Statement Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Miami, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley Counties.

Fog and Patchy Freezing Fog this Morning.
Fog has developed along and east of HWY 31 and south of I-80 this morning. The fog is restricting visibility to one to three miles with localized visibility dropping as low as one-half mile. In locations where temperatures have dropped below freezing, a light glaze of ice is possible for elevated and grassy surfaces. While ground temperatures should limit slick spots on roadways, caution should be used on bridges and overpasses. This fog will likely persist through the morning commute. Slow down and use the low beam setting on headlights.

Indiana Target Area: Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash and Whitley Counties.

 

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers: Eel River at North Manchester affecting Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash and Whitley Counties.

Another round of rain this afternoon into tonight will likely allow for minor river flooding by Friday.

*From Friday morning to Sunday morning.

*At 10 AM Thursday, the stage was 7.0 feet and rising.

*Minor flooding is forecast.

*Flood stage is 11.0 feet.

*Forecast: The river will rise above flood stage Friday morning and crest near 11.6 feet around 8 PM Friday, March 20 and fall below flood stage around 11 AM Saturday, March 21.

*At 11.0 feet: The river is at flood stage, minor agricultural flooding occurs.

Elevated Fire Danger This Afternoon.
There is an increased risk for grass, brush and ditch fires as well as unmonitored campfires to spread out of control this afternoon. Burning is not recommended. Relative humidity this afternoon is between 20 and 30 percent with southwest winds 15 to 20 mph and gusts 25 to 30 mph.

 

Instructions: Make sure you are following local laws that may be in place regarding burning in your location. If you must burn, ensure that the fire is constantly monitored and several options are available to quickly extinguish the fire. Contact your local fire department with any questions and if control of the fire is lost.
