Indiana Target Area: Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Miami, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, White, and Whitley Counties.

 

PATCHY DENSE FOG THIS MORNING.
Patchy dense fog will continue to develop early this morning with localized visibility of one quarter of a mile or less in the denser fog patches. Motorists should be prepared for rapid changes in visibility due to the patchy nature of the denser fog. The dense fog will be more widespread early this morning across northwest Indiana into portions of southwest Lower Michigan.

Special Weather Statement Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Elkhart, Fulton, La Porte, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph, and Starke Counties.

 

A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT WESTERN ELKHART, ST. JOSEPH, PULASKI, FULTON, STARKE, MARSHALL, LA PORTE. IN MICHIGAN CASS AND BERRIEN COUNTIES.

At 117 AM EDT/1217 AM CDT/, radar indicated showers and a few thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 17 miles east of Navy Pier to near Lowell to near Watseka. Movement was east at 35 mph. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with this line of showers and storms.

Locations impacted include: South Bend, Elkhart, Mishawaka, Michigan City, La Porte, Niles, Benton Harbor, Plymouth, St. Joseph, Nappanee, Rochester, Dowagiac, Westville, Bremen, Buchanan, Knox, Georgetown, Winamac, and Granger.
This includes the following highways: Interstate 80 in Indiana between mile markers 38 and 94. Interstate 94 in Indiana between mile markers 33 and 45. Interstate 94 in Michigan between mile markers 0 and 31.
Note: There are Indiana and Michigan cities listed in the above list.

 

Instructions: If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Secure loose outdoor items.

WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT /7 AM CDT/ TO 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ SUNDAY.

*WHAT: Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.

*WHEN: From 8 AM EDT /7 AM CDT/ to 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ Sunday.

*IMPACTS: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

 

Instructions: Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

Flood Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Pulaski, and Starke Counties.

 

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers: Tippecanoe River near Ora affecting Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Pulaski, and Starke Counties. Wabash River near Bluffton affecting Wells County. Eel River at North Manchester affecting Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash, and Whitley Counties. Maumee River at Fort Wayne affecting Allen and Paulding Counties. Saint Joseph River Ohio NEAR Newville affecting Allen, De Kalb and Defiance Counties. Rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected overnight and through the weekend. Additionally, storms can produce rain rates near 1 inch per hour. This will result in rising water on rivers.

*From Sunday afternoon until further notice.

*At 8 PM Friday the stage was 9.0 feet and steady.

*Moderate flooding is forecast.

*Flood stage is 12.0 feet.

*Forecast: The river will rise above flood stage Sunday afternoon and crest near 13.4 feet around 8 PM Tuesday, March 31.

*At 13.0 feet: Flooding begins to affect streets and homes in Monterey.

*This crest compares to a previous crest of 13.4 feet which occurred.

 

Instructions: Never drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near floodwaters. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for further statements and updated forecasts.
