Flash Flood Watch Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Elkhart, Fulton, La Porte, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke and White Counties.

 

FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM EDT /6 PM CDT/ THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan, including the following areas, in northern Indiana, Elkhart, Fulton IN, La Porte, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph IN, Starke, and White. In southwest Michigan, Berrien and Cass MI. From 7 PM EDT /6 PM CDT/ this evening through Wednesday morning.

*A warm front lifting into the area will provide a focus for showers and thunderstorms tonight into Wednesday morning. The potential exists for 1 to 2 inches of rain tonight into early Wednesday with localized amounts in excess of 2 inches. This heavy rainfall combined with saturated soils from recent rainfall will produce a potential of flooding and flash flooding tonight through Wednesday morning.

 

Instructions: A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Special Weather Statement Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White and Whitley Counties.

 

Strong Wind Gusts Expected This Afternoon.

Clearing skies and deep mixing will result in increasing west-southwesterly winds into this afternoon. Sustained winds are expected to be between 20 and 30 mph with a few gusts reaching into the 40 to 45 mph range. These strong winds will subside by 7 PM CDT/8 PM EDT.

 

Instructions: Unsecured outdoor objects may be blown around and tree limbs may be blown down.

Flood Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Pulaski and Starke Counties.

 

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers, Tippecanoe River near Ora affecting Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Pulaski and Starke Counties. Tippecanoe River above Winamac affecting Carroll, Pulaski and White Counties. Kankakee River at Davis affecting La Porte, Starke and St. Joseph Counties. Maumee River at Fort Wayne affecting Allen and Paulding Counties. Saint Joseph River Ohio below Montpelier affecting Williams County.

*Heavy rainfall today and the past few days has caused rivers to rise.

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Warning for The Tippecanoe River near Ora, From Wednesday Afternoon to Late Sunday Night. At 10 AM Tuesday the stage was 11.3 feet and rising. Minor flooding is forecast, Flood Stage is 12.0 Feet.

*Forecast; The river will rise above flood stage Wednesday afternoon and crest near 12.9 feet around 8 AM Friday May 3 and
fall below flood stage around 5 AM Sunday May 5. At 13.0 feet, Flooding begins to affect streets and homes in Monterey. This crest compares to a previous crest of 13.4 feet which occurred on Jun 15 2013.

 

Instructions: Never drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near flood waters. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for further statements and updated forecasts. Detailed river forecasts and more information can be found on the internet at www.weather.gov/iwx under Rivers and Lakes. All times are in Eastern Time. NWS will update this statement in about 24 hours or sooner if necessary.

Strong Wind Gusts Through This Afternoon.

Easterly winds are expected to remain between 20 and 25 mph with wind gusts reaching into the 30 to 35 mph range through midday. This afternoon winds will become southeasterly this afternoon and are expected to increase to between 25 and 35 mph with a few gusts as high as 45 mph for a few hours.

 

Instructions: Tree limbs may be blown down and could fall onto utility lines, leading to isolated power outages today. Make sure to secure any loose objects that may be blown around in high winds.
