Special Weather Statement Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Cass and Fulton Counties.

 

A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL AFFECT SOUTHWESTERN FULTON AND NORTHEASTERN CASS COUNTIES.

At 333 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located near Logansport, moving north at 20 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea-size hail are possible with this storm. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: La Porte, Pulaski, and Starke Counties.

 

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Pulaski County, Starke County, and La Porte County. until 745 PM EDT/645 PM CDT/.


*At 643 PM EDT/543 PM CDT/, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from South Haven to near Hebron to near Fair Oaks to near Percy Junction, moving east at 55 mph.

*Locations impacted include, Michigan City, La Porte, Westville, Knox, Winamac, Trail Creek, North Judson, Kingsford Heights, Wanatah, Francesville, Hamlet, Medaryville, La Crosse, Pulaski, Ripley, Hanna, Kingsbury, Monterey, Lomax and Beardstown. This includes the following highways, Interstate 80 in Indiana between mile markers 38 and 61 and Interstate 94 in Indiana between mile markers 33 and 41.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Instructions: A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT/700 PM CDT/ for north central and northwestern Indiana. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Flash Flood Watch Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Cass, Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, and White Counties.

 

FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.


The Flash Flood Watch continues for portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan, including the following areas, in northern Indiana, Cass IN, Elkhart, Fulton IN, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph IN, Starke, Steuben, and White. In southwest Michigan, Berrien, Branch, Cass MI, Hillsdale, and St. Joseph MI. Through Sunday morning.

*Very heavy rain has already fallen over portions of the watch area. Another round of heavy rain is expected late this afternoon into the evening. An additional 1 to 2 inches is possible in spots and may cause additional flooding.

*Areal flooding is also possible. People living in flood-prone locations, such as near creeks, low spots, and poor drainage areas may be impacted.

 

Instructions: A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
