Special Weather Statement Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley Counties.

 

Another round of accumulating snow on Monday.

A period of accumulating snow and difficult travel is expected to develop from west to east late tonight into Monday morning. The snow will then taper off in most areas later in the day with total accumulations generally in the 1 to 3 inches. The snow is expected to start between 6 am and 8 am EST west of US 31, and between 8 am and 10 am into northeast Indiana and south-central Michigan. Roads will likely become snow-covered and slick with temperatures in the 20s.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM EST /MIDNIGHT CST/ TO 1 PM EST /NOON CST/ SUNDAY.

*WHAT: Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.

*WHEN: From 1 AM EST /midnight CST/ to 1 PM EST /noon CST/ Sunday.

*IMPACTS: Plan on slippery road conditions. Most untreated or unplowed roads will likely become snow-covered and slippery. Travel over most areas Sunday is likely to be impacted.

*ADDITIONAL DETAILS: More snow is expected Monday that is likely to hamper travel and impact both the morning and evening commutes. The additional snowfall is likely to prompt new winter weather headlines.

 

Instructions: Slow down and use caution while traveling. Travel could be very difficult due to snow-covered roads and rapidly changing visibility from both the falling snow and patchy blowing snow. Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. If traveling, be sure to carry blankets, water, some extra food, and a flashlight.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 1 AM EST SUNDAY.

*WHAT: Freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations around 5 hundredths of an inch.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

*WHEN: From 4 PM EST /3 PM CST/ this afternoon to 1 AM EST /midnight CST/ Sunday.

*IMPACTS: Difficult travel conditions are possible due to icy roads. Secondary roads, bridges and overpasses, parking lots, and sidewalks are most susceptible.

*ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Icy conditions are likely to develop by evening and persist for several hours before temperatures rise above freezing overnight.
