Special Weather Statement Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley Counties.

 

STRONG GUSTY WINDS TO DEVELOP TODAY.
South to southwest winds will increase this morning to between 20 and 30 mph with wind gusts to 40 mph. The winds will persist through much of the afternoon before beginning to diminish late. Wind gusts could top 45 mph near Lake Michigan. Loose yard items are apt to blow around. If you are driving a high-profile vehicle, use caution in rural and open areas.

Flood Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Pulaski, and Starke Counties.

 

FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Indiana: Wabash River near Linn Grove affecting Adams and Wells Counties, Wabash River near Bluffton IN affecting Wells County, Tippecanoe River above Winamac affecting Pulaski, White and Carroll Counties, Tippecanoe River near Ora affecting Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton IN, Starke and Kosciusko Counties.

*WHAT: Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. This approaches the flood of record.

*WHERE: Tippecanoe River near Ora.

*WHEN: Until further notice.

*IMPACTS: At 15.0 feet, Near record flooding is in progress.

Instructions: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Detailed river forecasts and additional information can be found at www.weather.gov/iwx under Rivers and Lakes. This statement will be updated within the next 12 to 24 hours.

Winter Weather Advisory Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Allen, Cass, De Kalb, Huntington, Miami, Wabash and Whitley Counties.

 

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THURSDAY TO MIDNIGHT EST THURSDAY NIGHT.

*WHAT: Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will lead to areas of blowing snow.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

*WHEN: From 2 PM Thursday to midnight EST Thursday night.

*IMPACTS: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday evening commute.

 

Instructions: Slow down and use caution while traveling.

Winter Storm Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Fulton, Kosciusko, Noble, Pulaski, and Steuben Counties.

 

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON THURSDAY TO MIDNIGHT EST THURSDAY NIGHT.

*WHAT: Mixed precipitation into early afternoon followed by heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches and ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph with considerable blowing snow.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.

*WHEN: From noon Thursday to midnight EST Thursday night.

*IMPACTS: Travel will become very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday evening commute.

 

Instructions:: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ THIS EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING.

*WHAT: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall and snowmelt continues to be possible.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio, including the following areas, in northern Indiana, Adams, Allen IN, Blackford, Cass IN, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton IN, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph IN, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White and Whitley. In southwest Michigan, Branch, Cass MI, Hillsdale and St. Joseph MI. In northwest Ohio, Allen OH, Defiance, Fulton OH, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Williams.

*WHEN: From 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ this evening through Thursday evening.

*IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

*ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Rainfall between 1 and 2 inches is expected to fall during this period with times of moderate to heavy rain. Frozen
ground, ice jams, and additional snowpack melt will help lead to increased runoff leading to minor to moderate river flooding and flooding in low-lying areas. http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

 

Instructions: Continue to monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings Wednesday and Thursday. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
