Winter Weather Advisory Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Elkhart, Kosciusko, and Lagrange Counties. 

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST SUNDAY. 

***HAZARDOUS WEATHER*** 

*TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 5 INCHES ARE EXPECTED TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING. 

*NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TONIGHT TO 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH AT TIMES AFTER MIDNIGHT. WINDS WILL REMAIN STRONG ON SUNDAY. THE SNOW WILL INITIALLY BE WET AND HEAVY TONIGHT. BLOWING AND DRIFTING WILL LIKELY BEGIN AFTER MIDNIGHT AND CONTINUE SUNDAY.  

*TEMPERATURES WILL FALL BELOW FREEZING TONIGHT WITH WIND CHILLS DROPPING INTO THE TEENS. WET AND SNOW COVERED ROADS WILL QUICKLY FREEZE.

***IMPACTS*** 

*SNOW AND ICE COVERED ROADS CREATING HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.  

*REDUCED VISIBILITY DUE TO BLOWING SNOW. 

*POWER OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS LATE SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING.

Flood Warning Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash, and Whitley Counties.

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers...Eel River at North Manchester affecting Cass, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash and Whitley Counties until Wednesday afternoon. Moderate to heavy rainfall has led to a rapid rise on the Eel River in North Manchester, the river is forecast to enter minor flood stage this evening. 

*At 9 PM Monday the stage was 8.8 feet and rising, flood stage is 9.0 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. 

*Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage Monday night and crest near 9.7 feet around 7 AM Tuesday December 29 and fall below flood stage around 3 PM Tuesday December 29. 

*At 10.0 feet...Flood waters near lumber company and trailer court on South Mill Street. 

Instructions: Safety message...Never drive vehicles through flooded areas. the water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near flood waters. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for further statements and updated forecasts. Indiana Target Area: Allen, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, White, and Whitley Counties.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A WIND ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM EST /9 AM CST/ TO 10 PM EST /9 PM CST/ MONDAY. 

***HAZARDOUS WEATHER***                                                                                                                                                       *A PERIOD OF EAST WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 TO 45 MPH IS EXPECTED FROM LATE MONDAY MORNING TO EARLY MONDAY EVENING. 

***IMPACTS***                                                                                                                                                                                       *TRAVEL MAY BECOME DIFFICULT FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.                                                                                           *THE COMBINATION OF STRONG EAST WINDS AND POTENTIAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS MAY RESULT IN SOME TREE DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES.

Instructions: A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 MPH...OR GUSTS OVER 45 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION.

Freezing Rain Advisory Issued by NWS NorthernIndiana (Northern Indiana and Northeastern Ohio)

Indiana Target Area: Allen, De Kalb, Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Noble, Pulaski, Starke, and Whitley Counties.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM EST /6 AM CST/ TO 4 PM EST /3 PM CST/ MONDAY. 

***HAZARDOUS WEATHER***                                                                                                   *FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED TO LIFT NORTHWARD ACROSS THE AREA AFTER DAYBREAK MONDAY. WARMER AIR LIFTING NORTHWARD SHOULD CHANGE THE FREEZING RAIN TO RAIN FROM SOUTH TO NORTH DURING THE EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON HOURS ON MONDAY.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                *LIGHT ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF LESS THAN ONE TENTH OF AN INCH ARE EXPECTED.

Instructions: A FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN OR FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS. SLOW DOWN AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.
**PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL ARE EXPECTED TO PRODUCE 2 TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. 
**THIS HEAVY RAINFALL MAY RESULT IN FLASH FLOODING OF LOW LYING OR POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...AND SMALLER CREEKS AND STREAMS. SIGNIFICANT RISES ON LARGER STREAMS AND RIVERS ARE EXPECTED.

Instruction: A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED. IF THE ROADS ARE FLOODED DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ON THAT FLOODED AREA, SEEK ALTERNATE ROUTE. IF YOU DO TRAVEL ON FLOODED ROADS AND YOU GET DEEP INSIDE THE FLOOD ROAD, AND YOUR VEHICLE STALLS OUT, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EXIT YOUR VEHICLE, JUST CALL 911 AND GET HELP OUT TO YOU.
