Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley Counties.

 

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM EDT /NOON CDT/ TO 10 PM EDT /9 PM CDT/ TUESDAY.

*WHAT: Heat index values over 100 expected.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio.

*WHEN: From 1 PM EDT /noon CDT/ to 10 PM EDT /9 PM CDT/ Tuesday.

*IMPACTS: Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

*ADDITIONAL DETAILS: These forecast heat index values will be contingent on early Tuesday convection and any resulting cloud debris moving out and staying out of the area during the day to allow for maximum sunshine.

 

Instructions: Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Indiana Target Area: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, and Whitley Counties.

 

Elevated Fire Danger This Afternoon.

Southwest winds will increase to 10 to 20 mph with some gusts to 25 mph this afternoon. This, combined with a rapid drop in humidity values into the 25 to 30 percent range in many areas will aid in rapid drying of fine fuels.

 

Instructions: Make sure you are following any local laws that may be in place regarding burning in your location. If you must burn, ensure that the fire is constantly monitored and several options are available to quickly extinguish the fire. Contact your local fire department with any questions and if control of the fire is lost.

Indiana Target Area: De Kalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lagrange, Marshall, Noble, Pulaski, St., Joseph, Starke, Steuben, and White Counties.

 

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT /11 PM CDT/ TONIGHT.

*WHAT: Dangerously hot and humid conditions with heat index values of 100 to 110.

*WHERE: Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.

*WHEN: Until midnight EDT /11 PM CDT/ tonight.

*IMPACTS: Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

*ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Heat indices will again rise to dangerous levels from around noon to 8 PM EDT/ 11 AM to 7 PM CDT. Full sun will make it feel even hotter. There will not be much relief for those without air conditioning or electrical power through to tonight.
